We had a fabulous time and I will be happy to give you the run down on Secrets Akumal. You probably saw my album on Facebook that has pictures of the room. We liked everything about the facility and room. No complaints here! We were in building 5 on the fourth (top floor). I liked the location, it was in the middle of the resort, close to the pools and beach.
The building concierge, Christian, was helpful without being intrusive. They claim to only put mini-bottles of liquor in the room but Christian hooked us up :) The app worked great if we needed something (such as extra coat hangars) and they were always quick to respond.
Also, they had plenty of beach and pool loungers so there was no need to get up early to stake out your spot. No wristbands or towel cards, either.

We thought the food was great. I can't believe anyone would complain about it. It was nice to be in the preferred section as we had a choice of a la carte breakfast or the buffet. We did both. Both have advantages. I think our favorite restaurant was Oceana, followed by the French restaurant, Seafood Grill, Italian and Steakhouse. Our least favorite, oddly enough, was the Mexican - El Patio. We had lunch on the beach several times and the service was pretty quick and food was good. The weak part of the food would probably be the buffet at lunch. We preferred the a la carte offerings.

They had entertainment at the bars and sometimes around the pool. We enjoyed everything we heard. On the night of the Academy Awards, they set up a red carpet and large screen TVs and had an experience for those who wanted it.
We went to three shows ... the Fire, Beatles, and the Rock and Roll show. The theater is very nice and comfortable and the shows were fun.
